During 1 Kings through 2 Kings the people had a hard time following the first commandment: “You shall have no other God before me.” They would make alters, worship other Gods, worship a golden calf, make offerings, and destroy Gods temple. The idea of worshipping a golden calf is so absurd.
The story goes on, breaking the other commandments: “You shall make no idols, You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, Keep the Sabbath day holy, Honor your father and your mother, You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor, You shall not covet.” These commandments are meant to be kept. Even the King could not follow the ten commandments, what could we expect from anyone else. The people were lead in sin. So extreme, no one knew about God.
Think about Adam and Eve. Adam was very lonely he wanted a companion and God made him Eve. If you think about it, we’re all looking for someone to love us. Some of us, goes through drastic measures to fit in, especially our young people. Maybe follow a trend like leggings, water bottles, or the newest cell phone. Not all trends are good. People may want to worship a golden calf for the sake of fitting in. In reality a sense of belonging could come from anywhere!
Life is too short to worry about clicks. We have one friend who will love us unconditionally even though we don’t follow a trend. God is like a best friend, always close to your heart. The love so powerful it will light up your day. He will never abandon you or stop loving you. As long as we follow Gods rules.
God is love, it’s important to start early, give your child lots of love, teach them about God. The more love they receive the stronger they will be. Let them feel the presence of God almighty. The feeling of never being alone is truly peace of mind. So, they won’t need to break any commandments because they will always have their best friend in mind, and it’s God!
